5 ways to combat the dreaded Dad Bod

There’s maybe no job more noble or commendable than the one done by a good father. Being a strong guide for your children is an admirable aim that should be strived for daily. But, no matter what anybody says, having a Dad Bod is not a good look. You know, that body type that is a bit flabby, soft and round? There was some hype about it being something to shoot for. But that’s crazy talk. There’s no reason to settle for a Dad Bod when you have all the necessary tools to combat it. In honour of Father’s Day, here are five tips to avoid Dad Bod.

This sounds obvious, but committing to physical activity is the only way you’ll really tone up your body. Consistent healthy eating habits (more on those in a bit) will help you drop extra weight, but exercise is what will take your fitness and body shape to the next level. Making a running or gym plan and sticking to it is probably the best way to ensure long term physical fitness. However, even if you only have a few minutes, squeeze in some pushups or sit-ups in your office. Simple substitutions, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift or walking up to the shops around the corner instead of driving, can go a long way in warding off the threat of Dad Bod. Whatever you do, stay active one way or another. Make what you eat

A great way to make your meals count is by making them at home. That way you can control exactly what goes into your body. Get in the habit of cooking and preparing your own meals whenever possible. Make extra portions to take to the office for lunch or freeze for use when you run out of time. Make protein your friend

Make protein your friend

Protein supplements have a variety of benefits that can be great for you if used properly. Protein bars and protein drinks taken before and after working out will enhance muscle-building effects. Protein can also act as an appetite suppressant, keeping you from consuming too many unnecessary calories. Try picking up some Quest Bars or Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey and combine them with your workout routine. Also make sure to seek out foods that are high in protein, such as eggs and lean red meat. Drink more water

Drink more water

Drinking water is a free, easy way to keep your body hydrated before, during and after workouts. There are heaps of overall health benefits that come with drinking water. One of them is that it will keep you full, which helps you fight the addition of fat. Drinking more water during the day will stop you from eating snacks that can harm your chances of staying fit.
