Staying Motivated at the Gym

Can you believe it’s March already? This year is flying along and with most people back in full swing, your 2020 News Year’s resolution of hitting the gym may seem like a distant memory. If you can feel your motivation for getting to the gym slipping, you’re not alone. But don’t get disheartened, there is hope! Get the support you need

Find a friend, family member or even a colleague to work out with. Working out with a friend can be a huge motivator when you’re not feeling up to hitting the gym or exercising. Knowing that someone is counting on you to show up can really help you stop hitting the snooze button or get you off the couch. Having a workout buddy with similar goals can help you stay motivated in the long-term. You can motivate each other, share tips, push each other and celebrate your progress together. A little friendly competition can also be a great motivation boost. Whether you are trying to catch up to your friend or stay in front, a little competition can help get you out there and continue working towards achieving your fitness goals.

 

Consider changing your routine

Doing the same exercises and routine over and over can become boring very quickly. To spice up your routine, ask a trainer for some good alternatives to swap out. This way you’re still working towards your fitness goals but your routine and exercises will become more varied and interesting. Plotting out your routine ahead of time can also help you stay motivated. Try alternating routines and substituting new, fun exercises. It also helps to review your routines and check off what you have achieved. This way you’ll get a better sense of what’s working for you, what you enjoy and keep track of what you’ve accomplished. Cut back a bit

If you’re really dreading your next gym session, it’s okay to cut back a bit. Try something new and reduce the amount of time you’re spending at the gym to avoid dropping it completely. As simple as this one sounds, changing into your workout gear as soon as you get up in the morning or when leaving work can really help get you to the gym. Research has shown that looking the part can have a positive impact on your behaviour. So if you are in your workout gear already, even if you don’t feel like going, you are much more likely to get to the gym, just try it!
